On a physical event when we want to restrict the audience from a specific area/hall, we issue them different cards. You may wonder that how can we achieve it in a virtual event? Well, now you can segregate users into different categories and apply different access rules to them on the vFairs platform by configuring the following features:
- User Segments (used for grouping the attendees into different categories)
- Segment Rules (used for applying restriction/access rules to the user segments)
Navigation Path: Users > User Segments
User Segments
User segments can be created for both types of event platform users:
- Attendees
- Exhibitors
To get started:
- Open the User Segments page at the event backend
- Click on the Create Segment button
- Enter the name of the new user segment
- Select the audience type (attendees/exhibitors) to choose the users from
- Select the desired option against the Selection Criteria, and start configuring the user segmentation criteria accordingly as per the instructions given below.
The users can be categorized by:
- Defining segmentation criteria (Set Criteria)
- Manually grouping the users (Select Users Manually)
1. Defining user segmentation criteria
The segmentation criteria can be set up in the following two ways:
- Criteria based on registration form
- Criteria based on user activity
Criteria based on registration form
Using this option you can create user segments based on specific registration form fields.
Registration Form Field 1: If you want to group all the users who provided their email id in the registration form, then you will:
- select the Email field from the registration fields selection list, and
- apply the condition of "Is Specified".
Registration Form Field 2: If you want to group the users excluding those with last name "Xavier" into a segment, then you can:
- select the Last Name field from the registration fields selection list,
- set the condition on the field input, and
- enter the value (Xavier) accordingly.
Use the + sign to define conditions on more fields to set up the user segmentation criteria.
Now, if you want to send an email to a group of users such that their email is specified, and their last name is not Xavier, then you can select the above created (field 1, field 2 examples) user segment in the Email Campaign settings.
Criteria based on Login activity
If you want to group the users based on their login activity, then you will use this option.
Example: If you want to give early-bird discounts to the attendees, then you can:
- set up the Logged In Status accordingly. Possible values are: Logged in at least once, Never logged in.
- set up the Registration Date Start / Registration Date End fields according to the time frame allowed for early-bird discounts.
- select the desired Account Status. It could be Active, Inactive, or both.
2. Manually grouping the users
If you want to group random users into a group, and not to any specific criteria, then you can use this option.
Example: If you want to group only the admins, then you can simply search for the users in the Select Users field.
